The ECHO is a German music award, which was founded in 1992 by the German phone-Academy, the Cultural Institute of the Federal Association of music industry, to honor talented national and international artists. The first Echo ceremony was held in Cologne on May 18, 1992. At that time just 15 Echos were awarded, today there are over a hundred. The ECHO is meanwhile after the US Grammys and Brit Awards worldwide the largest award in the music business. On April 7th 2016, the 25th Echo ceremony took place. Barbara Schoeneberger moderated the glittering anniversary gala with 3000 guests at the Messe Berlin.
